A phenomenal second-half comeback saw Peebles Rovers walk away with their first win in EOS League Cup at a packed Whitestone Park.
It started with all-out attack for the Rovers, with McDonald and Zavaroni causing havoc on the right with fast build-up play. A thwarted Zavaroni cross saw the first corner come our way with Inglis knocking in from the right with Chris Robertson on hand to tuck away the first goal on 15 minutes to hand Peebles the lead.
This promptly led to Peebles enjoying long spells of the ball with Ormiston backing off, with acres of space available, Lindsay showed predatory instincts to drill a spectacular curling effort that forced a fingertip save out of Johnston in goal.
Their equaliser was a bit of a surprising one, with Dale Urey coming out of nowhere to fire a curved, long-range effort from 30 yards to land a brutal low-punch to Peebles hopes of victory on 31 minutes.
It came very close to being a knock-out, with Ormiston grabbing a second just two minutes before half-time after a break-away assault ended with a Milne cross being gobbled up by Jon Bisset to blast home from close range.
A big performance was needed, and the boys certainly delivered. Wing king Ndiweni was introduced to the game and his impact was immediate, as he scored a beautiful chip to send a big home support into rapturous celebrations. A red and white onslaught followed as Peebles totally conquered Ormiston’s half; with Rossi leading the line. It was a night for heroes, and Robertson claimed the title in spectacular fashion with Robertson once again popping up to drill home from close range to blast the roof of the Whitestone stand!
