A hugely frustrating afternoon saw Stirling walk away with the three points following an awkward encounter at Whitestone Park.
Despite running the risk of sounding like a broken record- this was another case of fine margins for Rossi’s talented Rovers.
The cause wasn’t helped with the absence of four key men; Jamie Mackay, Colin Smith, Alan McMath and Lewis Marshall
But despite lacking some quality up front, Peebles got off to a flying start with some immense attacking play.
With barely five minutes on the clock, Schulz-Keith played in Scott Inglis with a magnificent through ball, but, ultimately saw his run killed in it’s infancy by Joseph Greg.
Peebles were playing some nice football, enjoying lots of the ball and generally stamping their authority on the game.
However, the footballing tranquility was shattered in 15 minutes after McCaughie glided forward from midfield and struck the ball magnificently from 25 yards out.
The question of whether or not the ball was supposed to nestle in the top corner was irrelevant as his strike was enough to separate the two teams.
This was undoubtedly a bit of shock for the Rovers, and they needed to respond in style, and boy did they.
A plethora of chances came our way with Lee Zavaroni and Donovan Ndiweni both had chances and were decidedly unlucky not to tuck them away, with the skipper denied by a Sam MacLean save and Ndiweni saw his looping header cleared off the line.
The red and white assault continued into the second half, where James Dodds saw his long range effort pushed away by MacLean.
David Lindsay was introduced from the bench and came close to writing his name on the scoresheet, only to see his effort pawed away despite protests that his ball had indeed crossed the line.
But it was just one of those days where the ball wasn’t going in the net and Stirling returned home with the three points
