The One & Only Lee Zavaroni

Fresh from another training session at Whitestone Park, wing king Lee Zavaroni has spoken of his pride at being tasked with the responsibility of skippering the Rovers into our 2016/17 East of Scotland campaign; speaking to, the new skipper said: “It’s a good feeling being captain; we’ve got an exciting young team here, even though I’m going to have to shout at them quite a lot!, but yeah I’m really looking forward to the new season.”

Having enjoyed huge success at Peebles Rovers already, as a part of the legendary team that lifted a historic double of league and King Cup under John O’Hara in 2015, Lee revealed what convinced him to put pen to paper for his fourth season at Whitestone, He said: “I’ve been here about four years now, and without a doubt it’s the people behind the club that kept me coming back, from the chairman to the gaffer I knew as soon as I arrived that they were people I wanted to play for every week, and they’re really helping the club progress in the right direction.”

With this new look Peebles outfit consisting largely of young, Peeblesshire based football prospects, the captain believes that a place in the top six is well within the reach of Ger Rossi’s talented young guns; “We can do as well as we want, it’s all up to us though, and I believe that the top half of the table should be the objective, and from my perspective it’s something that we’re capable of achieving.”

“It’s vastly different from last season where we had experience all over the park, there’s only a handful of us in our 30s and it is going to be challenging, but hopefully we can pass down our experience and help the boys improve and enjoy a good season.”
