Ger Rossi admits that missing out on maximum points against Heriot-Watt was hugely frustrating, but insists his team are ready for the test that awaits them at Warner Park.
A plethora of opportunities fell the way of the Rovers, and the gaffer knows that the team must start putting away chances to clinch all three points in games. Speaking to www.peeblesrovers.com, he said; “I think with the domination we had in the first half, we really should have won it
“However, looking back at the start of the season, we went to their patch and were comfortably beat 3-1. So, from where we’re standing, it’s a step in the right direction. We played some of our best stuff in that game, anyone who has watched us this season can attest to that,our only issue is that we’re struggling to score.”
The current goal drought for the Rovers may concern some, but Rossi points out that missing key strikers has hampered the team and insists that goals are just around the corner;
“I don’t think that you can go a full season playing and competing the way we are without scoring goals; it really is just a matter of time
“It’s frustrating, but I think we’ve been unfortunate that the majority of injuries this season have affected our strikers. For example, Jason scores up at Burntisland and then the following week he’s out. Alan McMath is fighting to get back to full fitness, and he was going to be a key man to spearhead our attack. But, I’m confident that things will soon be right.”
Peebles and Eyemouth last crossed swords in pre-season, where goals from David Lindsay and Saul Schulz-Keith secured the win in a 2-1 victory. However, that was a long time ago and Eyemouth are now sitting pretty at the top of the league and the boss knows that a tough test lies ahead;
“They’ve got 13 points and are sitting at the top, so we’re not taking it lightly. It’ll be another challenge, especially with the weather up there, but the boys understand that every game is a test. We have to go out and match them, they’re at the top for a reason. But our biggest expectation is getting all three points.”
