Ger Rossi has spoken of his delight at rounding off 2016 in style with a comfortable 4-0 win over Burntisland Shipyard at Whitestone Park. Strikes from David Lindsay, Alan McMath and Robbie Renwick, coupled with a Craig Hamilton own goal, saw the Rovers pick up their third win of the season.
Rossi has spoken of his pride at the performance, and insists the team will be looking to keep up the momentum when the boys head to Home Park on Saturday to cross swords with Coldstream as league action resumes. Speaking to peeblesrovers.com ahead of the match, Rossi said;
“Yeah, we were thrilled with the result. It was great to go into the break with three points, especially after the Leith game the week before.
“I think it was a great show of character on our part; the boys have put in so much hard work and their ability to bounce back after a really tough result was great to see and I’m more than certain that the lads will carry this into the Coldstream game
“We’ve played them already this season, they were our first competitive game and it was frustrating to lose that first match but as a team, we’ve come very far since then. We know they’re going to attack us from the off given they’re at home, they’re a very good side and if you give them an opportunity they will punish you but we’ll be ready for them.”
The Berwickshire outfit currently sit in fifth place with eighteen points, and victory over Grant Murray’s side could see the Rovers make serious ground on the top 7 as the second half of the season kicks off. Rossi’s hopes will be further boosted, as Jason Newell looks set to return to the squad, but also revealed that Lee Zavaroni will miss out;
“Jason should be fit again for this one, he’s been working away in the gym and was back in training just before the Christmas break. It’ll be great to have him back, he’ll definitely give us a wee boost going forward with what he brings to the team.
“Lee’s also going to be unavailable due to suspension, which is a real pain, but, these things happen over the course of a season. We’re also waiting to see whether Jamie Mackay will be available, but apart from them it’s a full compliment going into Saturday.”
Kick-off on Saturday is 2.00pm at Home Park, stay tuned to social media for team news, match updates and reaction from this game.
