In a new series, Neil Hobson brings you the latest on Peebles Rovers and previews the next big game on the fixture list. This week, Rossi’s Rovers travel to Stirling Uni in search of a third league win…
It’s that time of year again, bring out the Christmas decorations from the loft, stick on the Crimbo compilation album and finally get round to buying the presents for the family.
But, the only present Ger Rossi will want tomorrow is a third win of the season. Yes, it’s fair to say that the league table doesn’t make for particularly festive reading for Rovers supporters with just 7 points collected so far.
But does this mean that there is a crisis at Whitestone Park? Not exactly, Rossi and his backroom team labored hard over the summer to assemble a new team- indeed, a team that largely consisted of local lads recruited from Peeblesshire.
And while league tables and match reports attest to a healthy helping of misery for the Rovers and their league campaign so far, the reality is that Peebles are playing exciting, daring, and above all else, some quite ruthless attacking football.
And, just as the New Year beckons on the horizon after Christmas, hope springs eternal and the Whitestone Warriors will be hoping to march into 2017 with another three points in the bag and a positive outlook for the rest of the season.
Stirling Uni may just well be the place to build some red and white momentum, with their league form suggesting a somewhat inconsistent season; P: 10, W: 3, D: 2, L: 5
It’s sure to be another cracker, a Christmas cracker hopefully. Keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook for team news and match updates ahead of kick-off tomorrow.
